Good morning. As of yesterday’s announcement about Alex Jones, it is now well within the @Twitter Terms of Service to harass parents of kids killed in Sandy Hook, smear Las Vegas shooting victims as “actors” and threaten to kill Special Counsel. Have a great day.
slpng_giants (@slpng_giants)
Tomorrow, Alex Jones will scream about his ban from iTunes being political. There are plenty of conservative & liberal podcasts that don’t harass the parents of children killed at Sandy Hook or Las Vegas shooting victims. This was not about right or left, but right and wrong.

CONFIRMED: @apple has cut ties with Alex Jones and Infowars. https://t.co/xA89jF9ADI

Pretty incredible that every major social platform was unanimous in deciding that Alex Jones has broken their Terms of Service today, but @Twitter is sticking with the notion that he hasn’t broken theirs. What a statement. https://t.co/u1oc6ieJLE

CONFIRMED: @facebook has dropped Alex Jones and Infowars permanently. https://t.co/MZywI24WVj

NEW @Twitter RULES: Call for followers to “take up arms” against opponents: 1 week suspension Threaten Special Counsel (a gov’t employee): Zero Harass parents of children killed in Sandy Hook: Nada Call Las Vegas shooting victims “crisis actors”: No worries. You’re good. https://t.co/i0RruoOwdX

There’s a good reason why @jack is continuing to tweet today after being silent on Alex Jones for so long. He knows he’s on the wrong side of this. When you’re the one social network whose amorphous rules somehow don’t prevent harassment & slander, that’s never a good place to be

Worth noting today, as @apple, @Spotify and now @Facebook have finally enforced their own Terms Of Service on Infowars, that @TeamYouTube has been doing backflips to keep it on their platform, issuing seemingly arbitrary “strikes” for months. https://t.co/0GdXgVBps5
Carlala_74 (@Carlala_74)
Jones getting booted from @Apple @Spotify & @facebook has nothing to do with politics or even hate speech. It’s about companies finally enforcing their own rules. If you don’t think that most companies do that, try walking into a McDonald’s naked.
toddwgreen (@toddwgreen)
2) That said, after Jones used @twitter and @periscope to smear Las Vegas shooting victims and Sandy Hook parents, according to their Terms, Jones should have been off the platform this year. But then, we’re taking about a platform that verifies white supremacists, so...

Hey @Apple! Thank you for leading the way with enforcing your Terms Of Service on Alex Jones. Please also consider that the same material deemed to be a violation of your Terms is available on the Infowars app on your @AppStore. https://t.co/qFLQ2465vR
scott_springer (@scott_springer)
Jones has broken the Terms of Service on all of these platforms repeatedly and each hides behind a Free Speech argument that doesn’t apply to them, as free speech protects you from your government, not your place on a social network. There is no law that compels them to do this.
Djamery (@Djamery)
Let’s not trip over our undies to pat these social platforms on the back for finally enforcing their Terms on Alex Jones. They provided him with an audience and a megaphone. They overlooked their rules while ignoring his victims. They made him what he is.
basilabia (@basilabia)
So far, an email platform, a music streaming service and a porn site have all banned Alex Jones, but @Twitter hasn’t. Let that sink in.

No. No, we’re definitely not Alex Jones. For one, we don’t call Sandy Hook parents “crisis actors”. And we don’t threaten to kill Special Counsel. And we don’t sell low-grade boner pills. Oh, yeah. And we still have a Facebook page. Which definitely makes us not Alex Jones. https://t.co/d6AMB2gTmq

Last week, we asked @Apple how the harassment of Sandy Hook parents and Vegas shooting victims didn’t violate their Terms of Service. Tonight, they decided that it did. Massive kudos to @Apple for doing what most tech companies have so far refused to do. https://t.co/YeUhJYxmby

Still amused by Ted Cruz breathlessly defending Alex Jones’ right to make millions selling expired vitamins on someone else’s platform.

4) Free speech protects you from government, it doesn’t protect your place on someone else’s platform with clear rules. Jones has every right to broadcast from his site or hawk his boner pills on a street corner (with necessary permits).
babernathy78 (@babernathy78)
Worth noting today that companies like @Stitcher & @OvercastFM, who had a lot more to lose than these big platforms, were the first companies to enforce their Terms of Service on Alex Jones. Also worth noting that @twitter is still too afraid to do what they did.
seapipe (@seapipe)
REAL TALK: Social platforms have given rise to hate, harassment, conspiracies and divisiveness, leaving their moderation as an afterthought from the jump. To say they’re now “silencing voices” is to ignore the fact that they allowed them to be amplified in the first place.

Smaller companies with a whole lot more to lose, @Stitcher & @OvercastFM deserve a ton of credit for already doing this before @Apple did tonight, so please check them out and give them your business. They took a bold stance that none of the bigger companies were willing to.
